There are many routes to Anne House Apartments, depending on the direction of approach to the city. The directions outlined below include points of interest when travelling through the city, and to make the route more recognisable. Alternatively, get a customised set of driving instructions to Anne House Parking Facilities here . (Click "Get Directions" near the top and enter the starting address)

From A7 : Galashiels Route

  • Follow the signs for Old Town and city centre, and keep straight on as far as possible, until you hit the Cowgate.
  • Looking at a map the actual A7 does a sharp left near the Commonwealth Swimming Pool, and takes you through Newington - do not follow this route.
  • Continue straight past the Commonwealth Pool, through St.Leonards, past "Homebase", continue on this road (soon you will see the tower on Calton Hill in the distance)
  • Drive down the Pleasance until reaching the traffic lights at the bottom of a hill.
  • Turn left at the traffic lights into the Cowgate. Ahead of you at these lights is St.Mary's St. with large Travelodge on the corner, and to your right Holyrood Road.
  • Drive along the Cowgate until you go under a bridge (South Bridge).
  • Slow down at the bridge.
  • Immediately under this you will see a pedestrian crossing with lights. Turn right just through this crossing, into a cobbled lane.
  • This is Stevenlaw's Close - and the location of the parking for Anne House.

From A1 : South : Via the city centre

  • Head for the city centre.
  • Continue right to the east end of Princes St. (do not drive along Princes St.).
  • Turn left at the New Balmoral Hotel onto North Bridge.
  • Drive across North Bridge, passing the Scotsman Hotel on your right.
  • Cross the High St. (Royal Mile), and immediately turn right into Hunter Square - just behind the Tron Church, (sometimes known wrongly, as Tron Square).
  • The Ibis Hotel, is facing you, turn sharp left and drive down Blair St.
  • At the foot of Blair St, turn right, drive just through the pedestrian crossing, and immediately right into a cobbled lane, with no name plate (actually Stevenlaw´s Close).

From M74 : South : Via Biggar

  • On reaching Edinburgh you will pass over the city bypass.
  • Head straight on into the city centre. (Probably only between 2 and 3 miles.) Your route passes through these areas Fairmilehead, Comiston, Morningside, Bruntsfield, Tollcross, and once through Tollcross, you are almost in the city centre before you need to make any turnings from this road.
  • Tollcross is a large junction and although you are driving straight on, the main route does bear to the left. At the next junction (traffic lights) it bears to the right. Keep straight on.
  • You will pass Woolworths on your left, and a cinema also on your left at the next junction. The street you are on is Lothian Road.
  • Then also on left you will pass the Filmhouse, and Sheraton Hotel.
  • On your right there will be a clock/bell tower on the pavement, and behind this the Usher Hall.
  • Next there is a large junction, with traffic leaving and joining on the left only.
  • Keep into the right hand lane at this point - (a lot of traffic will be going left).
  • Only slightly further, and you take the next right turn, into Castle Terrace.
  • There is also a large car park on Castle Terrace so it is well signed.
  • Drive past the car park on your left, until the junction at the end (Edinburgh Castle at this point is also on your left).
  • You can only turn right here - then turn sharp left, on to Lady Lawson Street. (A couple of feet closer and it would have been straight over at this junction).
  • At the next junction turn left into West Port (downhill and very narrow).
  • Keep straight on right through the Grassmarket - trees on your left, large hotels etc. on your right.
  • At the end of the Grassmarket the road splits into 3.
  • Uphill to the left (West Bow and Victoria Street) level for the central route (Cowgate) and uphill to the right (Candlemaker Row).
  • The central road Cowgate is your route.
  • Drive along here, under a bridge (George 4th Bridge) pass the "Tailors Hall Hotel" on your right. On your left are some new buildings with brightly coloured supporting pillars.
  • SLOW DOWN and indicate left. Ahead you will see another Bridge (South Bridge) over the road (Cowgate). Do not go this far!
  • Just ahead of the bridge there is a pedestrian crossing. You need to turn left into an unnamed cobbled lane just before this crossing.
  • It is right after some new build and the Siglo Bar.

  • Ask the driver to go via the Cowgate and take a cobbled lane (Stevenlaw´s Close although there is no sign there at the moment) which is between the Siglo Bar and the pedestrian crossing.
  • Drive right to the top of this lane - heading back towards the Royal Mile.
  • Anne House is well signed at the top.
